Knitting Stitches

Here's a list of some stitches I like and use.

The knitted alphabet: for colourwork. Sized for gloves, mittens, and socks (ie small). Designed by yrs trly, but I'm sure it's been done oodles of times before so I'm not claiming any credit. So there.

The Runed Alphabet: another one for colourwork. With pronunciation key. This one I did for hats, so you can knit up phrases like "my husband's hat" that fit all 'round the brim.

Brioche/Fisherman's Rib: I prefer the "knit one below" method of achieving this pattern; here's my summary of how to do this in the flat and in the round. And here's a blog about brioche cables, with a cowl pattern thrown in.

Simple Tessellations: Here's a link to my Ravelry store (free pattern), I've put together a small compilation of some small interlocking colourwork designs (2 colours) suitable for small items like socks and gloves. download now

  1. I saw a picture of owl knitted socks on Pinterest. The link led me to your blog. I have not been able to find the pattern on your blog. Do you have a pattern for owl socks?

    1. That sock is (as I recall) top-down, with no cuff, using a lace pattern called "horseshoe lace". I used a classic flap heel. The sock is done in Kroy sock yarn, which is a bit thicker than I usually use, so a 60-st sock is big enough for me.
