It's tremendously useful to me since my sock longevity goals are pretty much the same as yours. The only thing I would do differently is to add a carry along thread of laceweight mohair/wool under the heel and the second half of the toe because these are areas that wear out first on our socks.

DH and I walk a lot and despite rigorous toenail cutting, our big toe nails eventually damage both handspun and commercial socks. My remedy is to make brightly coloured patches from commercial yarn scraps over the worn area. But there are so many “sock” yarns and I dont need to waste money on bad ones. I want a yarn that won’t split easily, is soft yet cushy, offers different yarn weights within the type and possibly a manufacturer type which offers an added strength fibre for enhanced wear in heel area. Id even be up to switching the yarn type to the enhanced yarn in the herls and toe area when knitting. Could anyone recommend the best yarn makes so I can research them?Sahrenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11171621462757668157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636765613588162075.post-23584131975055505822019-07-07T17:30:01.189-07:002019-07-07T17:30:01.189-07:00I love that cast-on also and it's what I use w...I love that cast-on also and it's what I use when knitting socks. The label says 13 wpi, but Ravelry listed this yarn as worsted. Most patterns I like say size 7 needles will yield a gauge of 18 (10 cm), but I get 16. Now I understand blocking/rinse/wear will change this. Difficult to know what cardigan pattern to select.
